The Sudan and South Sudan Bishop’s Conference has formed six commissions of the Catholic Church, all headed by bishops across the dioceses.
The decision was reached during the Bishop’s conference in Wau to promote the service delivery and the commitment of each commission.
The Auxiliary Bishop of Juba Archdiocese, Santo LokuPio revealed this during the handed-over ceremony of the President of Sudan and South Sudan Bishop Conference on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.
He said,the bishops elected His Eminence Stephen Cardinal Ameyu Martine Mulla as President of the Conference replacing Bishop Tombe Trille of El Obeid Diocese.
The bodies which were established includes, the Pastoral and Social Communication Commission headed by HL Alex Lodiong Sakor Eyobo, Deputize by HL. Stephen Nyodho Ador, the Integral Human Development Commission headed by Bishop Barani Eduardo Hiiboro Kusala and His Grace Michael Didi as deputy.
The chairman of the Commission for the clergy and religion is HL Santo Loku Pio, and deputize by HL Mathew Remijo Adam, The Commission for Finance is headed by H.E. Stephen Card. Ameyu Martine Mulla deputized by H.L. Daniel Adwok.
Other commissions include the Catholic Education led by Bishop Christian Carlassarre and His Grace Bishop Micheal Didi as deputy.
Auxiliary Bishop Santo further clarified that the President of the Bishops Conference His Eminence Stephen Cardinal Amyeu Martine Mula will oversees the whole Catholic institution including the Major Seminaries, the bishop’s secretariat and being the Chancellor of Catholic University of South Sudan.
“Restructuring of the Sudan and South Sudan: the Bishops agreed to reshuffle the administration of the conference,” he said
The handover ceremony was accompanied by a prayer mass that was celebrated by His Lordship Tombe Trille, the outgoing president of the Bishops Conference for Sudan and South Sudan.
