Cardinal Stephen installed as President of the Bishop Conference

Sudan and South Sudan’s Bishops Conference has installed a new President, His Eminence Stephen Cardinal Ameyu Martin replaced Bishop Yunan Tombe Trille who served for four years.

During the inauguration on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, the outgoing President of the conference Bishop Tombe  called on  the Catholic Institutions to collaborate and work with the new President.

While handing over the pastoral mission to the new president, Bishop Tombe Trille thanked the Church leaders, priests, Nuns Religious men, and women for being supportive during his term.

Bishop Tombe appeals to his fellow Bishops, priests, religious men, and women to continue supporting the new president.

Tombe regrets less service as the president of the bishops due to the distance and conflicts between the two countries, citing that it’s an opportunity for having a new president who will be available on the ground.

“I know playing on the ground and being very far, I wouldn’t have done very much because of my distance especially this time of war.”

Bishop Tombe urges the staff of the Catholic Institutions, Bishops, and priests to work with integrity to serve the people of God.

The new president of the Sudan and South Sudan Bishops Conference His Eminence Stephen Cardinal Ameyu Martin Mulla appreciates his predecessor Bishop Tombe Trille for servicing the conference.

Cardinal Stephen   Ameyu Mulla  says the transition marks a new chapter in the leadership of the great conference and a time for reflection gratitude and hope for the future.

“To the incoming president I address you, I’m happy to be given this office of service. This transition marks a new chapter in the leadership of our great conference and it’s time for reflection gratitude and hope for the future.”

He states that the outgoing president has guided the conference through challenging times fostering Unity, Peace, and progress.

He adds that the outgoing president demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the conference and placed the well-being and the needs of the conference as the priority.

“President Tombe, demonstrated unwavering commitment always placing the well-being and the need of the conference first. Our conference has achieved significant milestones and overcame numerous obstacles like division and disunity.” Cardinal Stephen said

Cardinal explains that the outgoing president embraced the principle of cooperation and unity ensuring that every Bishop’s voice is heard and valued.

The new Bishop appeals to all bishops to work together to strengthen the conference as well as the Dioceses.
