Catholic Diocese of Rumbek has started a peace pilgrim walk with ninety-four youths from seventeen parishes taking part including Bishop Carlassere, Priests, and Nuns.
The pilgrim started Monday 8th January 2024 from Rumbek Eastern Deanery to Tonj Western Deanery to preach the word of God and peace to the communities.
Church members will cover a distance of more than 100 kilometers on foot and keep praying across the parishes they pass through.
Father Stephen Manager who is in charge of youth in the Rumbek Catholic diocese said that youths are the backbone of the church.
He adds that the pilgrim aims to tell the communities that youths are capable of promoting peace and unity in the parishes, community, and the country as a whole.
Father Manager revealed that they had started the journey from Holy Family and slept in Abreu yesterday and still they have to go through Cueibet, Agangrial, Bargiel, Malou Pech, Ror-Chuol Akol, and finally to Tonj on 13th Jan 2024.
Father Stephen said that they are traveling in the light of Jesus Christ but in case of emergency, they have first aid doctors, and security organs who are protecting the journey.
An evangelizing Sister Christine is encouraging youths to be strong in faith not only in walking by telling the communities that they are walking for peace.
The Bishop of Rumbek Christian Carlassere says walking is a tough thing but enjoyable and colorful among the Christian family to unite.
He stated that the initiative is to bring the voice of the Holy Father to the communities through peaceful pilgrim.
Bishop Christian highlighted that the theme of the peace pilgrim is walking ‘’together’’ He reiterated that walking together makes to encounter new people and share of vision.
The Church leader termed the walk as a special time as they are heading to the western deanery where the diocesan Eucharistic congress will be held to embrace togetherness as Catholics and people of God.
Christian Carlassere assured the public that they are walking with a lot of energy under God’s care and protection.
In February last year, nearly one hundred youths from the Rumbek Diocese came to Juba by foot to attend ecumenical prayers headed by Pope Francis during his visit to South Sudan.
