The bishop in the Catholic Diocese of Torit has urged South Sudanese to elect leaders of their choice, and leave aside tribal basis but rather see themselves as South Sudanese.
According to the statement revealed in an interview with Radio Emmanuel on Thursday Emmanuel Bernardino Lowi Napeta said it is the will of people to choose leaders of their choice, he advises citizens to make the right choice.
He added that the committee set to oversee the general election should be credible and genuine saying that in many countries when people see elections result they tend to fight.
“All in all of course whoever becomes a president for us we need really to accept the result of the election and we have this committee for elections that needs to be genuine and credible,” he said.
Bishop added that some political leaders refuted the elections result intending to cause war which is the wrong method.
“Most of the countries after seeing the election result begin fighting for some reason either the committee was not genuine or the process was not fair or they only wanted their person not because there was a mistake they just wanted their person to think he did not succeed but as South Sudanese our person, the one who wins the elections, he said.
The Catholic bishop however underscored that the church endorses candidates who happen to win the general elections.
He tells the entire citizens not to raise an alarm during the electoral results but rather prepare to cooperate with the next upcoming presidential candidates.
“I hope things will go well and I wish all the people of South Sudan that this election should be a peaceful one, support it and we need all to go for the ballots,”
Your vote means a lot as a South Sudanese I encourage all to vote when the time comes but also vote for the person whom we know is going to serve us not because he is from my tribe or religion but because he is a South Sudanese going to serve us,” he added.
The Catholic prelate made the remarks in an exclusive interview with Radio Emmanuel on Thursday.
