The South Sudanese President, on Friday, directed the new Police Chief, Atem Marol Biar to instill discipline and ensure a strong standard of professionalism in the police service.
The President was speaking while officiating over the swearing-in ceremony of the new Inspector General of Police, General Atem Marol Biar, and the Presidential Advisor on Peace, Moses Gatkuoth Lony.
The oath-taking ceremony was administered by Chief Justice Chan Reec Madut at the State House.
According to the President, they are doing what will shape, prepare and move the country forward by building a peaceful, and united society.
“What we are doing is shaping the way for us to move in one direction of building a peaceful, united, and developed South Sudan,” the Head of the States highlighted.
The Minister of Presidential Affairs Doctor Barnaba Marial Benjamin encouraged the new officials to promote unity among the people of South Sudan.
In her part, the Minister of Interior; Angelina Teny expressed her readiness to provide adequate security to the civil population.
General Atem Marol Biar was appointed Tuesday this week, in a republican order replacing Lieutenant General Majak Akec Malok.
Before Biar was appointed as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), President Kiir first promoted him to the rank of a General in a separate decree and then appointed him.
At the time of his appointment, General Atem Marol Biar was serving as the Director General of the Directorate of Civil Registry, Nationality, Passports, and Immigration at the Ministry of Interior.
On the same note, Lieutenant General Majak Akec Malok, the former Inspector General of Police was appointed to the position in 2018.
