Twenty three journalists graduated on Wednesday in Juba after completing a year journalism advance certificate course sponsored by the Media Development Institute

The Grandates are part of the 7th Cohort of MDI and have undergone theories and practical classes to professionalize their skills in journalism.

Chairperson Board of the Association for Media Development in South Sudan, Koang Pal Chang commended the Ministry of ICT and Postal Services and Media Authority for recognizing MDI as a legit media training institute.

He says the Centre offers short courses but is impactful to the journalism industry in South Sudan.

Koang appealed to the donors and other partners of MDI to continue supporting the Journalism training wing to help reach their goal of professionalizing journalism in the country.

“We therefore appeal to all within and outside the media industry to continue supporting media development through MDI so that we can have an institution we would be proud of,” Koang added.

Director of AMDISS, Ayaa Irine Lokang has highlighted the milestone achievement of MDI through their alumni who among them have established media outlets like Number One Citizen Newspaper.

She says several media practitioners graduated from the institution since its establishment in 2016.

“MDI is not just an institute for training journalists; it is a place for discovery.” Ayaa Irine quotes.

The deputy Minister of Information in South Sudan Jacob Maiju Korok says MDI is playing a very important role in the media by producing journalists in the country.

He urges the graduates to maintain professionalism while executing their duties by “not stepping on the toes of others.”

The Media Development Institute has graduated 184 journalists since 2016.
