The Medecicins Sans Frontieres (MSF) commemorated its 40 years of Humanitarian services in Sudan and South Sudan on Wednesday 8th November 2023.

The event acknowledges and reflects significant achievements and challenges faced by the health organization while offering humanitarian services in the country.

MSF Representative in South Sudan, Mamman Mustapha says the agency has been in Sudan since 1983.

He says they responded to disease outbreaks, running primary and secondary health care services, epidemics, manmade and natural disasters, and any unusual unforeseen emergencies that might arise.

The national minister of Health, Yolanda Awel Deng applauds Doctors Without Board for their quick responses to disease outbreaks in South Sudan throughout their time of service.

The National health minister used the occasion to commend donors, humanitarian actors, and partners who are rendering lifesaving services for their endless support to the people of South Sudan.

Yolanda therefore emphasized that MSF and other health-related organizations should coordinate and realign to the health sector strategic plan and the government guiding framework to avoid waste of resources and time.

“For us to be effective as people working in the healthcare sector, we must coordinate, we must align and we must be on the same page and have frequent communication, my office is open though am very busy.” Yolanda reiterated.

The deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ramadan Abdala Goch apologized on behalf of the government regarding the security threat and attacks on humanitarian workers by unknown thugs while offering services to the needy people.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working together with MSF and all humanitarian partners in South Sudan.

Médecins Sans Frontières, named Doctors Without Borders in English, is a charity that provides humanitarian medical care. It is a non-governmental organization of French origin known for its projects in conflict zones and countries affected by endemic diseases including South Sudan.
