South Sudan President Salva Kiir has on Friday directed the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs to address the situation of returnees and refugees in the country.

The decision came after the President received a detailed report on conditions of returnees and refugees from the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Albino Akol Atak.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Minister Akol revealed that more than 360,000 people have crossed into South Sudan due to the ongoing war in Sudan.

“We have more than 360,000 people that have crossed into South Sudan due to the ongoing war in Sudan since the war brokeout out five months ago,” Atak highlighted.

The Minister also disclosed that a food consignment from Saudi Arabia will arrive in Juba this Saturday to help ease the food crisis faced by the returnees and refugees from Sudan.

He further added that, “Food consignment from Saudi Arabia will arrive to Juba on Saturday to help ease the food crisis faced by the returnees and refugees from Sudan.”

The President appreciated Saudi Arabia for her positive response to the humanitarian needs in South Sudan.

During the 78th UN General Assembly meeting held in New York last month, President Salva Kiir appealed to the international community to push harder for peace in neighboring Sudan.

The conflict in Sudan has displaced more than five million people and sparked a humanitarian crisis along the border between Sudan and South Sudan.
