The Governor of Central Equatoria State Emmanuel Adil Anthony has appointed Flora Gabriel Modi as the new Mayor of Juba City Council through a gubernatorial decree on Friday.

This is the first time a female assumed the position of Mayor in Juba City and the second in Central Equatoria state after Cecilia Oba Tito.

The Former mayor of Yei River County Cecilia Oba Tito, was the first female mayor in central Equatoria State before she was kidnapped and murdered along with her personal office manager by unknown assailants in 2014.

The New Mayoress will now officially be the replacement of Michael Lado Thomas Allah-Jabu who was sacked in June this year.

Emmanuel Khemis Richard, the commissioner of Lainya County was immediately appointed as a Caretaker but was eventually sacked after nearly two months of service following the public outcry after he was seen in video footage slapping a female vendor along the road.

Governor Adil also re-structured the Administration of Juba City Council and created the additional position of third Deputy Mayor for Environment and Waste Management to the existing ones of Deputy Mayor for Administration and Finance and Deputy Mayor for Social Services
