South Sudan National Communication Authority has disclosed plan to import fiber optic broadband network from the republic of Kenya and Djibouti to ease communication access as the country gear toward digitalization
Engineer Kenyi said the government has dispatch team in Kenya to negotiate the memorandum of understanding before the project commence
He said once the project materialises, the fiber optic network will be transported via Kapoeta, Torit until Juba, and the capital city
Mister Kenyi reiterates that the government in separate plan to transport another fiber optic broadband from Djibouti via Ethiopia to South Sudan’s upper Nile region
Currently, South Sudan depend mostly on satellite network provided by telecommunication companies
He underscored that fiber optic is cheaper compared to satellite internet which is very expensive and not reliable enough
He stressed that peace is the most vital catalyst to the success of the fiber optic transportation in the country
Kenyi said that the optics will improve communication which contributes to good governance
The speaker made these remarks during the commemoration of the International Day for Universal Access to Information.
South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit and his counterpart William Ruto of Kenya have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish fiber optic cable along the Eldoret-Juba Road.
The move is to enhance connectivity between the two countries.
A fiber-optic cable, also known as an optical-fibber cable is a long-distance telecommunication that provides high-speed data connection.
