Hundreds of stakeholders from Public, private, and developmental partners are discussing ways to tackle some of the underlying challenges hindering business in South Sudan.
This came during the development summit conducted in Juba organized by Cooperative Bank to promote business growth.
The summit focuses on sustainable growth through agribusiness value chain development, empowering grassroots communities, financial inclusivity, and promoting initiatives on climate resilience in South Sudan
The Chief Executive officer of Co-operative Bank in South Sudan, Elijah Wamalwa says they organized the summit to tackle issues affecting the development and seek for solution
“We are here to partner, we are here to deliberate, we are here to speak, we are here to discuss on how we can together develop and all of us have the responsibility to develop this country South Sudan.”
Each one of us plays a different role that is critical to progressive the development of South Sudan, “Elijah States.”
Mr. Elijah applauded the partners and stakeholders who turned up to participate in the summit, urging them to share ideas that can help sustainable development in South Sudan.
The undersecretary for Cooperative and Rural Development at the Ministry of Agriculture (FAO) Mathew Gordon regrets the low banking in South Sudan making it difficult for people to grow.
Gordon says the people of South Sudan should avoid keeping their stock in the bank or at the light.
“More than 98 percent are keeping their stock at the light, what do you expect out there, because each of them had to take care of their stock? Light stock means money that is kept by their owners at their homes, not in the bank. And so the banking sectors, you will be a big part of the solution in the role of banking, so that people can remove their stock from the light and put it into the bank.”
He adds that UNFAO works together with cooperative banks and the Ministry of Agriculture to enhance the number of farmers in the country.
He calls for joining hands together and working for the sustainability and development in South Sudan.
The undersecretary of cooperative and Rural Development at the Ministry of Agriculture Meshack Oguna Malo appreciates the Cooperative Bank of South Sudan for their support to the farmers and business sectors.
He says the cooperative bank has covered most of South Sudan in support of the sustainable development and growth of the country.
Malo believes that with the engagement of the cooperative bank and the people of South Sudan, the challenge facing formers and business people in the country will change.
The stakeholders were speaking during the 10th annual summit organized by the Cooperative Bank of South Sudan, under the theme, “Partnership for Sustainable Development in South Sudan.”
