The National Minister of Finance and Planning has called on the people of South Sudan to take advantage of national economic conference to focus on areas of economic transformation.
Bak Barnaba Chol said South Sudan must expand to agriculture, not only to ensure food security, but to generate income.
“There is no doubt that this conference will enable us to renew our commitment towards establishing the economy and considering peace through proving equitable social services. Let us sees this opportunity that has been avail by this conference to focus on areas of economic transformation.”
Bak added that the government of South Sudan have taken the responsibility to revive the existing schemes, such as Aweil Rice scheme, Rweng Machines agriculture, Jebel Ladu Dura scheme, Anzara Agro-complex and Mangalla sugar scheme to improve the economy.
He calls for jobs creation for the population in South Sudan and balance trades with the neighboring countries.
“Let us revitalize and expand so that we create jobs for our population, and balance of trades with the neighboring countries, the region and even in the world.”
Women participation in economic transformation is not just a moral imperative, but a pragmatic one and there should a space for women to access education, he stated.”
The finance minister explained that South Sudan must invest in infrastructure, energy and transportation to create an environment that is conducive to business growth connecting producers to consumers.
He encouraged the country to take the national economic conference as a call to action, not a mere discussions and policy recommendations.
The Minister of Finance in the Arab Republic of Egypt Mohammed Ahmed said the relationship between Egypt and South Sudan in the economic aspects increase bilateral trade.
Mohammed Ahmed hopes that the result of South Sudan National Economic conference will serve as a catalyst to enhance the joint investment endeavors.
“We hope that the result of this South Sudan national economic conference will serve as a catalyst to enhance our investment endeavors and the inauguration of the National Egypt Bank branch in South Sudan in 2021, is a clear evidence of the relationship.”
He added that the government of South Sudan and Egypt will soon sign an agreement to avoid double taxation and other agreement which will be a catalyst to joint investment in both sides.
The Egyptian Finance Minister appreciates the government of South Sudan for taking a step to hold economic conference that will address issues and give solution the growth of the sustainable economy.
On Monday 05, September 2023,the Ministry of Finance of South Sudan organized its first national economic conference under the theme, “Towards a diversified, inclusive and sustainable economic growth.” The conference started on Monday 4th, runs for whole of this week until Friday 8th September 2023.
