The High Court in Juba has verified the medical receipts and travel documents presented by the complainant for the slain sister Veronika as authentic and qualified for reimbursement claims.
Sr. Veronika was shot, wounded during the 2016 crisis while driving Saint Bakhita’s ambulance after she had just delivered to Harvester Health Centre, a patient with a complicated case needing specialized treatment and care.
She was then rushed to Nairobi for proper medical attention and later died after 5-days battling with the pain of wounds she sustained from the gunshot
Father Emanuel Lodongo who is the complainant on behalf of the victim and the Catholic Dioceses of Yei presented the travel document worth over 17 thousand U.S dollars used to charter planes from Yei to Juba, Juba to Nairobi in the struggle to safe life of the Catholic nun, unfortunately she succumbed to gunshot wounds while undergoing treatment in Nairobi, calculate together with the cost of transporting her body from Nairobi to Juba, and later to Yei for burial.
Father Emmanuel also presented medical receipts worth 1.8 million KSh which were all verified authentic by the court.
During the court session, Father Emmanuel was cross-examined by the defence lawyer of the accused, Counsel Akoth Maduok to clarify on how the incident happened during the scene.
In June, the court adjourned its sitting and gave the complainant Father Emmanuel Lodongo one and a half months to find authenticated medical documents from Kenya’s Ministry of foreign affairs or Ministry of Health to be presented on August 8th, 2023.
The complainant’s defense lawyer, Paulino Lado, told CRN that the court hearing was adjourned, and rescheduled for August 8th due to what they termed “authenticated medical bills” from Kenya where the slain Sister was treated, to be availed before court.
Reverend Sister Veronica was serving as a Health worker in the Yei Catholic Diocese and her murder shocked many Christians.
The presiding judge at the Kator Court in Juba, Nicholas Makuach Bol said the next hearing is on Monday, 14th, August 2023 at 10AM.
