South Sudan President Kiir has dismissed finance minister Dier Tong, and replaced him with Doctor Baak Barnaba Chol, the incoming finance minister
Doctor Baak Chol was appointed in a presidential decree read on state-run television; South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation/SSBC TV.
South Sudanese President Salva Kiir dismissed the Minister of Finance and Planning, Doctor Dier Tong Ngor from the position and replaced him with Doctor Baak Barnaba Chol.
According to a presidential decree read on state-run television, Doctor Baak Barnaba Chol has been appointed as the new Minister of Finance and Planning.
The reason for the dismissal of Doctor Ngor has not been given, but it comes as the South Sudanese pound continues to depreciate against the US dollar.
Tong Ngor was appointed by President Kiir to the Finance position in August last year replacing his predecessor Agak Achuil Lual
Doctor Ngor, the former Finance Minister was appointed when the South Sudanese Pound was trading at 686 against 1 United State Dollar and was relieved when the local currency sales were at 1017 against 1 U.S. Dollar.
Before the position of Finance Ministry, Ngor served twice as the Governor of the South Sudan Central Bank.
The newly appointed Finance Minister Doctor Baak Barnaba Chol holds a Bachelor of Science in economics from the University of Juba, an MBA in international finance from the University of Buckingham, and a Doctorate in Business Administration in finance from the United State International University- Africa.
Minister Baak is currently an adjunct assistant Professor at the University of Juba.
