A Youth representative in Yei River county of Central Equatoria state is calling on the county government to offer protection to its civil population.
Gaga Frank, the speaker of the Yei River County Youth Association expresses disappointment on the level of continued impunity and disrespect of human rights in the county.
The call comes after a boda-boda rider was killed along Yei-Lasu road on Monday by unidentified assailants.
Frank says he was expecting that the signing of the peace agreement could allow citizens to enjoy the fruits of the liberation struggle but that innocent citizens continue to die due to road ambushes.
He said, “I am very disappointd on the level of continued impunity and disrespect of human rights in the county.”
The Youth representative calls on the government to protect the citizens and their properties.
He believes that it is the duty and obligation of the security to ensure that citizens and their properties are protected.
The Young man believes that if the citizens are protected, they will work hard to develop the country by complementing the government’s efforts toward development.
“It is the sole responsibility of the government to protect its citizens. The work of the security is to protect civilians,” Frank highlighted.
On Monday a boda-boda rider who was carrying mourners to Nyori village fell into an ambush at Sanjasiri an area in Lutaya within Yei town living him death on spot and injuring the passengers who was carrying.
Issues of armed attacks on civilians along highways linking Yei to other parts of the county and neighboring countries have been rampant since the onset of the conflict in the area.
It is always not clear who carries out the attacks on civilians who are running different businesses to provide for the family’s needs including education, health, livelihood and many others.
