The Governor of Central Equatoria state, Emmanuel Adil Anthony has sacked the Mayor of Juba City, Michael Lado Thomas Allah-Jabu, and his two deputies on Tuesday.
The deputies sacked include Thiik Thiik Mayardit for Infrastructure and development and Frederico Nyakun, for Finance and Administration.
The governor has also sacked the Juba City Council Chief Executive Officer Alfateh Margani Agal and appointed Rev. Martin Simon Wani as the new Chief Executive Officer.
The Gubernatorial decree reads, “The Dissolution of the Top Office Bearers of Juba City Council that is; His Worship, the Mayor, Two Deputy Mayors, and the Chief Executive Officer.”
The Gubernatorial Order has upgraded the Position of the Chief Executive Officer of Juba City Council to the Status of Director General in Grade “1” placement Ordinary.
In a separate decree, the commissioner of Lainya County, Emmanuel Khamis Richard has been appointed as the Caretaker Mayor for Juba City Council but the Deputies spots are still vacant.
“Assignment of Hon. Emmanuel Khamis Richard, the Commissioner of Lainya County to take the Responsibility of Juba City Council and supervise its General activities until the Mayorship position is filled,” the statement added.
Concrete reasons for the dissolution of the top office Bearers are not established but Governor Adil’s decision to relieve the mayor and his deputies from duties was not unexpected.
Previously, the Mayor had been accused of corruption and mismanagement of funds and also failed to carry out the demolition of buildings on road reserves as ordered by the Governor.
It is not yet clear how and where the newly appointed Caretaker, Emmanuel Khemis, the Lainya County commissioner, is going to operate given the fact he has two key positions to handle.
However, the State Ministry of Local Government and Law Enforcement Agency has been directed to immediately take the necessary steps to execute these Gubernatorial Decree pronouncements.
These Gubernatorial Decrees come into effect from Tuesday 27th June 2023 assigned by the appointing authority.
Michael Lado Thomas Allah-Jabu was appointed as the Mayor of the Juba City Council in November 2021 replacing the controversial Kalisto Lado Faustino who was credited with opening the roads.
