Central Equatoria State Chamber of Commerce’s Chairperson Robert Pitya has expressed concern over the inconsistency of power supplies saying it affects businesses.
He accuses the Juba Electricity distribution company (JEDCO) of being unreliable in supplying power across the city.
This concern came after JEDCO announced its latest partial load shedding to do power plant maintenance.
Pitya calls on the government to end its agreement with Juba Electricity Company and contract a new partner that meets the interest of the people.
He says lack of power for several hours a day damages a lot of goods owned by traders across Juba.
“If JEDCO and Ezra group of Company has no capacity to deliver efficient, reliable electricity to traders people, why the government officials have given and signed a contract to these companies, power is very essential you can’t give a company which is not providing efficient and reliable services in trams of this power issue,” he said.
He calls on JEDCO to announce to the public when it will do maintenance and urges them to deliver good services to the people across Juba.
“Let JEDCO and Ezra group companies tell us if are they going to fix this mess by action and results, and if they don’t deliver efficient a reliable electricity to the traders and people, let them tell us they can’t deliver efficient and reliable electricity.”
Mr. Pitya further raised concern about high charges at commercial centers saying a kilowatt costs 700 and the power only lasts an hour.
He explains that some commodities need consistent power so the goods should not get damaged.
Over the past months, people across Juba have been complaining of poor power in houses and markets and consumption of kilowatts.
The Juba Electricity Distribution Company (JEDCO) was established in May 2018, a Private Public Partnership company incorporated by EZRA Construction & Development Group and the South Sudan Electricity Corporation
JEDCO says it supplies power to 24,547 people active customers across Juba.
