The Yei police investigator submitted evidence connected to Sister Veronika Theresia’s killing to Kator Court on Thursday.

According to James Paulino, the lawyer of the late sister Veronika Rakova, the investigator presented 8 pieces of evidence before the presiding judge.

Police Form 8, a postmortem report, a death certificate, investigative dialogues, statements from the suspects, AK-47 rounds discovered at the scene, and a letter from the governor are among the evidence.

According to the police report, six suspects were initially arrested in connection to the shooting of the ambulance that the late Reverend Sister Veronika was driving at the time.

The suspects were; Marko Lual Deng, Marko Akol Diing, Mayen Dut Mawien, Mane Justin Faustino, Abraham Magok Akwai, and Akech Arop Chol.

Mane Justine Faustino is a member of the National Security Services (NSS) while the 5 others are members of the South Sudan Defense Forces (SSPDF).

The suspects were apprehended and detained in police custody but the SSPDF commander of the Division ordered their release.

On 11th February 2021, the case was referred to Yei County Court with 4 suspects to appear before the judge.

They include Marko Lual Deng, Marko Akol Diing, Mayen Dut Mawien, and Mane Justin Faustino. The NSS could bring their members to the court but the SSPDF could not.

This made the Yei County judge transfer the case to Juba High Court before it was eventually moved to Kator Court in February this year.

The Judge who presided over the case at Kator court adjourned the case to 23rd March 2023 to allow the lawyers to cross-examine the pieces of evidence presented to the court by the police investigator.
