Ethiopian PM discuss peace implementation with SS Leaders in Juba

The Ethiopian Prime Minister, Dr. Abiy Ahamed visited South Sudan on Monday welcomed by President Salva Kiir at Juba International Airport.

Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Deng Dau Deng says the two heads of state have disused regional matters and progress on peace implementation.

The visit of the Ethiopian Prime Minister came at a time the two principals to revitalize the agreement failed to reach a consensus on the reinstatement of the Defense Minister and swapping of security ministries by the president last week.

Hon. Dau says President Kiir and Prime Minister Abiy touched on mutual interest between the two nations

“The two leaders held a meeting on bilateral matters with regional dimensions including the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement,” Dau stated.

Prime Minister Abiy also met the First Vice President, Dr. Riak Machar to deliberate on the challenges hindering the implementation of the peace agreement.

Honorable Deng Dau says the government of South Sudan values its historical ties with Ethiopia and recognized the keen interest in needing peace and stability.

“South Sudan values its historic ties with Ethiopia and appreciates Ethiopian keen interest in need of peace and stability,” Dau explained.

For his part, the Ethiopian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Misganu Arega affirms that the two leaders exchanged views on bilateral relations and regional stability.

“The two leaders exchanged views on issues of bilateral and regional matters of mutual interest,” Arega affirmed.

Ambassador Misganu says the visit of Dr. Abiy placed particular importance on the peace and stability of South Sudan.

He stated that Ethiopia is committed to standing and seeing to it that the two leaders reach to peaceful resolution of issues.

Last week, President Salva Kiir and his deputy Dr. Riak Machar failed to reach an agreement on changes President made in the Cabinets and two Ministries swapped.
