Authorities in Central Equatoria discourage revenge attacks

The Minister of information and communication in Central Equatoria state is urging citizens across to setback from revenge on cattle herders.

Minister Andruga Mabe Severio says communities should not take the law into their hands and avoid continuous violence. Andruga promises that government will do all possible to solve issues affecting the community.

“We advise all the citizens not to carry the law into their hands, the government is there, and the government cannot be defeated in solving such problems,” he emphasized.

Minister further assures the farmers that cattle keepers will peacefully return to their origin area.

“Their return to their lands of origin should be open for them, they should be peaceful not through violence because with violence we turn to lose a life.

He notes that the cattle keepers are not quitting very fast from the areas because of the water issue, citing that as the rain has started, they will all go back.

“The issue we came to know that they are not moving immediately is because they are also affected by the issue of water but now, we thank God that the rain season has come because they say when they are in the period of rain, they don’t face more challenges.”

The minister hopes Governor Emmanuel Adle Anthony will resolve such issues of cattle keepers and land grabbing across central Equatoria state.

He adds that the governor stated his visit from all counties and Payams of Central Equatoria with the message of peace and call on the refugees to return home.

On 2 February 2023, Communal clashes took place between farmers and cattle keepers in Kajo Keji County, Central Equatoria State contributed to the loss of lives.
