Jemma Nunu Kumba Foundation has trained 32 businesswomen on entrepreneurship skills at the Women’s Union premises in Juba.
The women are market vendors who deal in retail businesses and were drawn from markets at Konyo-Konyo, Custom, Juba, Gudele, Kuburi Haboba, and Jebel.
According to the program manager of the Foundation, Alimure Ali Awuda, the aim of the training is to give women ideas and skills on how to strengthen and boost their businesses.
Alimure claims the majority of women dealing in small-scale businesses are not being catered for because development partners tend to focus on women who are working in offices.
He urges the partners and organizations not to neglect women engaging in small trade but to support their businesses since they also contribute to the growth of the economy in this country.
Some of the participants expressed their gratitude to Jemma Nunu Kumba Foundation for organizing the women’s empowerment training in an exclusive interview.
Marcelline Peter Casiano, a graduate of Chemical Technology from the University of Zimbabwe says after graduating, she came back to South Sudan and started a liquid soap business because she could not get a job in her field of study.
Marcelline says the training enables her to learn new strategies for handling customers and making business progress since she did not study business in her college.
Casiano said she is going to start implementing the new skills and knowledge she has acquired from the training to attract customers and boost her business.
She calls on the leadership of the Jemma Nunu Kumba foundation to continue training more women to strengthen their skills in business management.
Flora Masmino, a market vendor who sells fruits, says since she started her business, she has experienced many challenges.
According to her, small-scale businesses often fail to progress because they are being used as the only source of survival in the family.
Jemma Nunu Kumba Foundation was launched in August last year by the National Speaker of South Sudan’s Parliament as a charity foundation to support needy children, girls, and women.
The speaker launched the Jemma Nunu Kumba Foundation with the aim of providing scholarships to needy children and financial support to disadvantaged women.
