MTN network establish Computer Lab for Secondary students in Juba

Student of Juba Day Secondary instructed for use of Computer

Mobile Telephone Network in South Sudan has established a new computer lab center at Juba Day Secondary School to help students research during their studies.

The Minister of Education in Central Equatoria State Ciricio Zachariah commends the tremendous work of MTN to create the center of transformation.

Minister Zachariah says the Government of Central Equatoria state is grateful to the private network for supporting the community beyond their telecommunication duty.

“Today I can attest that MTN is also offering a computer center for the school and this is the second time I’m witnessing such after the first establishment at Juba girls Secondary School,” he said.

Zachariah calls on the national and state governments to work hand in hand with MTN to promote development.

“I would like to tell the government and also the central Equatoria state government that the person that gives you help in education is someone who really wants to help you in the development that is why I want to say that MTN does a lot in offering to different schools in the central equatorial state.”

“As the government of central Equatoria state we are going to stand with MTN in everything that they are doing and giving back to the community”, he adds.

The Minister is encouraging the MTN network not to focus only on Juba, but they should extend such services to the Counties of Central Equatoria.

“I would encourage MTN to go outside the city with such support, everything should not be just done in Juba or central or Juba, if that is done all the people in South Sudan will also benefit.”

The Chief Executive Officer of MTN, Gordian Kyomukama says all their activities since 2021 have been geared up toward digital literacy.

Gordian says its mission is to re-promote digitalization in schools.

“All our plans of activities since 2021 have been geared to digital literacy and when we have a project like this and we get the proposal from the various stakeholders, we embrace it because it’s part and partial of our mission and strategies that we have has MTN group to re-promote the digital literacy.”

He commends the government of South Sudan for recognizing MTN and the efforts they are making in the country.

The headmaster of Juba day secondary School George Kenyi Wilson has welcomed the establishment of the center saying it will promote ICT in education.

“We feel very much happiness because MTN, apart from its business, it’s also having the responsibility of which they are promoting ICT in education and as such, I commend the role MTN is doing in promoting the new syllabus of South Sudan which is promoting ICT in schools.”

He says the administration of the school will make sure students use it for designing and fulfilling the mission of its establishment

Student representative, Jesika Poni Moses a science student says, it will help them in research to know more about medicines.

MTN South Sudan has established two computer centers for secondary schools in Juba.
