The Catholic Diocese of Rumbek has started a seven-day diocesan pastoral assembly, an annual event to discuss the achievements and challenges facing the church.

The Bishop of Rumbek Catholic Diocese, Christian Carlassare says the assembly is under the synod of the diocese and brings together, priests, the diocesan head of the department, catechists, and lay people.

They will discuss the journey done, new visions, new priorities, strategies, and resolutions to achieve the goals of the church.

The assembly is under the synod theme; walking together as the family of God.

Bishop Christian says there will be reports from the parishes and the deanery on the second and third days, then general discussions on new visions, strategies, and resolutions on the last days.

“We have the diocesan pastoral assembly, which is an event that is in the diocese, it’s there every year and especially this time that is a synod process, we called it the synod of the diocese where people come together and share about the journey done.”

“We also look at the future, giving more vision to the diocese, new priorities and strategies and resolutions to achieve that goal together as the church of Rumbek,” he mentioned.

Bishop Christian assures the faithful of the diocese that the assembly is not just a sitting but a gathering to discuss the challenges and resolutions of the diocese.

He explains that there was a beautiful message of walking together from the youth who walked to Juba to witness the coming of the Holy Father.

“The second and the third day there will be reports from the parishes and deaneries and from departments of the diocese to hear where we are, what we are doing, what is working, and where we should work more.”

“And then from the last three days, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday we will have more discussion on some specific topics and strategic plans for the future,” Bishop Christain said.

The assembly began on Monday and will end on Sunday in Holy Family Cathedral.
