The Chairperson of the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC), General Charles Tai Gituai has called on the government to tackle ongoing violence in Upper Nile.

He says the conflict could escalate and destabilize implementation of the Peace Agreement.

The Chair of the peace monitoring mechanism was speaking during the 25th Monthly plenary meeting in Juba on Wednesday.

General Tai says there is a need to investigate and evaluate such violence.

“RJMEC is deeply concerned over the escalating in Upper Nile and Jonglei States with innocent lives being lost, thousands displaced, livelihoods and properties destroyed. If not address urgently, the wider ramifications of such violence could destabilise the ongoing implementation of the peace Agreement,” he said.

The RJMEC reported the dire humanitarian’s needs in the area and called for quick intervention.

“I appeal to RTGoNU to establish the board of the Special Reconstruction Fund, and for it to work closely with partners to mobilize the requisite resources, “Tai stated.”

General Tai appreciates the progress by the parties on the Roadmap to the implementation of the peace agreement.

He calls on RTGoNU and parties to adhere to the Roadmap timelines and their implementation urging  the reconstituted Transitional National Legislature to expedite the processing of all Bills before the Legislature.

He recognized the first resolution of the Sixth Governor’s Forum, which affirmed the commitment of the States and Administrative Areas to implementation.
