President Salva Kiir Mayardit is calling the international community to support the roadmap parties agreed and extended the transitional government for 24 months.
This came during the sixth governor’s forum held in Juba that brought together 10 governors, 3 administrators and representatives from various sectors.
The forum is an annual event Chaired by President Salva Kiir Mayardit and his First deputy Dr. Riek Machar Teny.
This year focus on accelerating the implementation of revitalized agreement in accordance with the roadmap.
Kiir says the roadmap will be the major discussion of the governor’s forum.
President acknowledges the frustration of the partners over slow implementation of the peace agreement.
He called the partners to support the roadmap and ensure the deal is implemented in good faith.
“We cannot do this thing alone; we need our partners to support us. With this 6th governor’s forum, I hope we’ve now learned a key lesson that in post conflict situations things move faster when they are resolved jointly than when others sit on the side-line expecting parties to do things by themselves, “Kiir said.
President encourages the governors to deliberate on matters that will put the country into a path of peace.
The Governor of Central Equatoria, Emmanuel Adil says the forum provides a planform of the state’s leaders to change views to ensure the country restore peace.
He called for allocation of renounces to the states that can help governors achieve their developmental projects.
The Special Representative of the UN Secretary General, Nicolas Haysom described the forum as “opportunity” to reflect on South Sudan’s recommitment to the Revitalized Peace Agreement.
He commend the parties for reaching a consensus on the way forward and the ratification of the Roadmap only last week by the Transitional National Legislature.
“I am pleased to see the nation’s leaders – from the bomas, payams, counties and capitals – coming together under one roof under the leadership of the government of the country,” said Haysom.
He says a key theme of governor’s forum should be deliberations on pathways towards a stable and prosperous nation so that every woman, man and child can benefit both peace and the natural abundance of this country.
“This process carries with it the added strength of the states moving together with the center, reinforced by the participation of civil society, of partners and the international community. We look forward to the full inclusion of women’s voices in this important dialogue,” he added.
The 6th governor’s forum is a weeklong event begun on Tuesday until Friday this week.
