The President of the Sudan Catholic Bishops Conference Yunan Tombe Trille has called Bishops to prepare Christians for the second phase of the Bishops’ Synodal process.
This came during the annual bishop’s conference for Sudan and South Sudan in Khartoum concluded this week.
Church leaders across the two countries and Catholic organization heads participated in the conference
The president of the Conference who is also the bishop of El Obed, appreciated the hard work bishops did during the first phase of the Synod.
“The pastoral issue of a synod of bishops, is a good opportunity and I would like to thank the Palica team under the leadership of Bishop Stephen Nyodho, also Fr. John.”
“I believe I follow they have been in contact with pastoral teams and coordinators in the diocese and indeed they brought the first phase of the synod to a conclusion.”
The president highlighted the issue of strengthening the training of catechists as agents of peace and reconciliation in all dioceses of Sudan and South Sudan.
“We want the catechists to be the agent of peace and reconciliation, to reduce the violence, inter conflict, and communal conflict, “said Bishop Tombe.”
“I think the Apostolic letter is for us bishops’ to act upon, it is sent to us, we want the catechists to be the agent of peace and reconciliation, to reduce the violence, inter conflict, communal conflict.
“The course, way forward to do that, it’s their journey formation for training them in peace issues, trauma hilling issues as our people are in war zones,” he said.
Catholic Radio Network quoted Bishop Tombe saying the past AMECEA plenary put them right on strengthening the formation of catechists, citing that there is a need for bishops’ conference to have a directorate for Catechists.
