The Sudan People’s liberation movement in Opposition resumed full parliamentary activities after boycotting their sittings at the parliament this year.
The 1st Deputy Speaker of the Reconstituted Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) -TNLA Nathaniel Oyet Pierino says SPLM-IO has lifted the protest that prevents them from participating in the parliament session.
Rt. Oyet says the decision came after the President‘s order that canceled all bills passed in the absence of opposition lawmakers.
“The SPLM-IO parliamentary caucus in its meeting dated 14th of August 2022 resolved to terminate its boycott of parliamentary business effective today Monday 15th of August 2022,” Oyet said.
In June this year, IO parliamentarians boycotted sittings in the Transitional National Legislative Assembly and disputed some of the bills the assembly passed.
The Deputy Speaker states that those bills that were passed by the parliament without the knowledge will be returned for deliberation in the house with the participation of the SPLM- IO.
“The resolutions of the two principles are very clear that those bills that were passed by the parliament and ascended to by the president shall be returned for deliberation in the house with the participation of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition Members of Parliament,” he added.
The two bills which were passed by the parliament without the knowledge of the SPLM-IO include the Wildlife service bill and Constitutional making process bill.
The SPLM-IO boycotting was prompted over the amendment to the political parties’ bill.
