Cardinal Parolin urges South Sudanese to desist from violence

The Vatican Secretary of State Eminence Cardinal Piatro Paolin has called on South Sudanese to desist from violence and to work together for peace.

The cardinal in his pastoral massage while presiding over a eucharist mass at Dr. John Garang’s mausoleum emphasized embracing peace with each other to experience liberation by breaking the yoke of oppression.

He believes that together with Jesus, the prince of peace, South Sudanese can build and reconcile as one fraternity

“Jesus is the prince of peace, together with him we can build and reconcile and renew fraternity,” Cardinal Piatro said.

Eminence Cardinal Piatro noted that South Sudanese are the most marginalized people living in a land rich with resources and possibilities but covered in darkness and overshadowed by violence.

He says citizens and the country’s leadership must decide on the future of the nation to make the light shine and to rejoice in freedom.

Cardinal Piatro tasked the leadership of the country to take responsibility and concrete action to involve the spirit of unity, peace, and reconciliation and to embrace one another rather than shedding blood and continued violence.

President Salva Kiir also assured the Pope’s envoy that he will implement peace despite numerous challenges facing the agreement. Kiir vowed he will never take back the country to war.

Eminence Cardinal Pietro the Vatican Secretary of state held a holy mass at Dr. John Garang Mausoleum On Thursday. President Kiir and Dr. Riek were among thousands of faithful who attended the prayers.
