Bishop-elect arrives in Yei ahead of his consecration and installation

Bishop-elect of the Catholic Diocese of Yei on Tuesday arrived the diocese ahead of his proposed day of consecration and installation on Sunday 15th May 2022.

Pope Francis appointed Monsignor Alex Lodiong Sakor Eyobo on 11th February, 2022 replacing Retired Bishop Erkolano Lodu Tombe who served the diocese for thirty-six years, Radio Easter reported.

Speaking during his reception at Christ the King Cathedral, Parish Priest Joseph Arike Eugenio welcomes the bishop-elect and his delegation.

Emeritus Bishop Erkolano Lodu Tombe believes that the bishop-elect has come to serve the faithful of the diocese.

He reveals that the Catholic Diocese of Yei stood firm for the last thirty-six years despites the many challenges facing it.

Monsignor Alex Lodiong Sakor regrets that the Catholic Diocese of Yei went through a lot of challenges and that he is consecrated into the challenges confronting it.

He mentions the conflict in the region that has led to the closure of seven parishes of the diocese.

The monsignor reveals Christ the King and Mundri as the only operational parishes of the diocese as others have been closed due to the 2016 crisis.

He says God has called him to work with the people of Yei to overcome the numerous challenges confronting the diocese.

The catholic religious leader calls on the Christians of Yei and the entire population to work with him in order to develop the church.

He believes that everyone at every level has a role to develop the church and grow.

The bishop-elect was a campaigned by a delegation of four local priests and Comboni Missionaries.

The speakers made these statements on Tuesday at Christ the King Cathedral during the reception of Monsignor Alex Lodiong Sakor.
