Refugees in South Sudan demands repatriation back to Ethiopia

Some refugees in Gorom refugee camp mostly from Gambela, Ethiopia is appealing to the UNHCR and the government of South Sudan to repatriate back the elderly persons from the various camps within South Sudan.

Camp chairperson Ojulu Ochan Ochan says some of their elderly persons have voluntarily requested to be repatriated due to what they termed to health and age-related issues that tend to affect their lives in the camp.

“We are requesting for requesting for resettlement for medical cases and other concern cases and secondly, we are looking for repatriation for the elderly people are requesting our office and we shared this with the commission for refugees’ affairs and UNHCR to be repatriated back to the country (Ethiopia).” The camp Chiarman appeals.

He also complained of inadequate food provision to the refugees in Gorom.

The camp chairman called on the government to find a mechanism to control cattle invasion within the settlement camp

UNHCR deputy representative Juliette Murekeyisoni appreciated the Minister of Interior for his humanity to visit the refugees in Gorom refugee camp.

He was speaking during a visit of the Minister of Interior to Gorom Refugee camp on Friday in Gorom-Juba.

Gorom refugees camp is situated along Juba-Yei road, established in October 2010 and it host approximately 2,205 refugees from Ethiopia, Anywak in particular. Some are Congolese from Katanga and Sudan.
