Authorities arrest under age children for violating local order in Yei

Yei River County authorities arrested several small boys and girls in disco places for violating local order issued by the commissioner.

In March, the county leadership issued local order number three for the restrictions and stoppage of teenage children from attending overnight praises and places of discos.

Yei River County Executive Director Timon Wani John confirmed to Radio Easter in an interview that they arrested several under age children in disco places.

He said the operation on under age children moving at night is an implementation of the order issued by the commissioner to safeguard lives of the young generation.

Wani revealed that from the day of issuing the local order, county authorities have been talking to parents through radio stations in the area to restrict their children’s movement at night, but claims that nothing has been put into consideration.

He added that the implementation of the order commenced on 01.05.2022 and will continue until children are no more seen on the streets and disco places at night.

The executive director confirms thirteen children were arrested in the first day of the operation with nine boys and four girls.

He mentions that some of the teenagers were released under condition of bail by their parents and that others are still in police custody.

Wani threatens to apprehend parents of children who will be got at night in disco places for not restricting and controlling their under age children.

The official requests parents to take 80 percent of the responsibility of the protection of their children as the government provide security to the entire population.

The step taken by the county government prompted a lot of public reactions applauding the government for taking the move to arrest teenagers moving at night.

The citizens request the government to detain any child found loitering at night for a period not exceeding six months in order for them to refrain from such behaviours.
