Victims of Juba-Yei-Kaya road clearance appeals for assistance

People affected by the Juba-Yei-Kaya road construction by Africa Resource cooperation ARC Company in Yei are appealing for assistance from humanitarian organizations, Yei county government and Central Equatoria State government.

The victims are requesting for non-food items for shelter and food items from partners to start a new life from the burden of the destruction, Radio Easter reported.

Noel Lokonga, one of the people affected, mentions that the only home he lives in is destroyed and has nowhere to sleep during the rainy season.

“The home I live in is demolished and nowhere for me to sleep. My parents are in refugee’s camps, the situation has become tends and no any plot to transfer to. I am calling on the government and organizations to help because we sleep in the open and it is rainy season and let the help with little food since the small space for cultivation of vegetable is submerge by the road”, he appeals.

Other affected persons Esther Kanya and Margret Sadia Hassan urge the organizations to come to their aid with shelters and food items.

They say the children have nowhere to sleep and became hopeless of the future.

“We are here our house are demolished what can we do the elderly like me I have no child with me. Any organization can help with carpets and small food ratio now am suffering and sleeping under a lemon tree besides the destroyed plot no place to sleep”, appeals Mama Kanya.

“Where can we take the children our houses are getting destroyed along the road and possible ways to rescue the situation.

We request able humanitarian organizations to help with non-food items and little food for the children”, adds Margret Sadia Hussein.

The road construction is now entering Yei Town from one-mile Kaya road by Africa Resource cooperation or ARC a national organization tasked with the rehabilitation of the highway with other nine subcontracted companies.

The Sixty metre radius road is 218 kilometres under African Resource Cooperation project with nine other national subcontractors

The Juba-Yei-Kaya road construction is a national government initiative to enable the movement of goods and service as well as to put infrastructure in place and to improve the standard of living of the citizens

The persons affected by the road rehabilitation spoke to Radio Easter in Yei on Wednesday.
