Chief whip blames State Ministers for lack of knowledge of MPs’ roles

Eastern Equatoria State Assembly Chief Whip, Peter Otim Carlos, is blaming some ministers for lack of knowledge on parliamentarians’ roles.

He says the ministers are not aware that the members of the parliament are representing the will of the common citizens, Radio Easter reported.

Otim explains the August House oversees the work of the executive in the state and also authorizes and allocate budget in the different sectors of the state.

“First of all most of these ministers, Rite Honourable Speaker, do not know the functions of the Members of Parliament, I want to read. The Eastern Equatoria Legislative Assembly represents the will of the people of Eastern Equatoria State and shall poster their unity and that of the state, oversee the executives and promote the decentralized system of government in the state that is one, I take you to two authorize annual allocation of resources and revenue, this is within our power of the functions in the assembly, oversee the performance of the state government organ”, the Chief Whip enlightens MPs.

‘When we summon some ministers before the August House, it is because of the business conduct’, Otim explains.

According to him, whatever the August House is doing is because it is within their power and functions of the assembly.

“Approved plans, programs and policies of the state government and summons ministers to answer questions from members of the assembly on matters of related to their merits, and when you are call here, you are not call because you are having may be differences with people ,We are using conduct of business which is the law that allow us to summon any minister and interrogate ministers about the performances of their ministries, this is within our powers and the functions of the assembly”, he says.

The speaker made the remarks to ministers of Local Government and Law Enforcement and of Information and Communication at the State Assembly.
