Limited resources supply affects water system in Easter Equatoria State

Limited human resource supply is affecting the water governance system encountering a lot of problems that the ministry and its partner is struggling hard in addressing, says Luka Charles Jankarlo, Eastern Equatoria State Minister Of Housing, Land and Public Utilities.

He spoke on Tuesday as the World commemorates the World Water Day under the global theme: “Ground water, making invisible visible”, Radio Emmanuel reported.

According to Charles, the factors include lack of spare parts, limited funding, poor water management and human factors like open defecation that contaminate the water surface.

“The challenges that we have, the water governance system is challenged with a number of factors that the State ministry is struggling to deal with the support of the state government and entire local government authorities in their various capacities. Lack of spare part and spare part chain from the suppliers of the consumer level, limited funding and the national government to facilitate a local government authority to implement the water policy as per guidelines, Water management at the rural level not effective due to the interpretation and excursion approach, human resources dev’t and deployment with support from the local government and population from human interaction like open defecation practices along water surface bodies like rivers swamps and streams”, he elaborates.

Minister Charles reveals plans of constructing water dams in Kapoeta East for human and animals and even the agricultural activities in the area.

He urges the partners to collaborate and plan together with the government before implementing their activity to avoid reputation of the work.

“We are planning to cover the whole state we have a plan of having some dams in Kapoeta for both human and animals even for agriculture purposes that will help us also for irrigation, it is only that the source that we doesn’t have but all we appreciate all our partners by working together with us and I also urge them to continue working together with the government especially in planning purposes to avoid duplication”, Charles notes.

The minister made the remarks during the commemoration of World Water Day at Torit Freedom Square on Tuesday.
