The Internally Displaced Persons or IDPs in Magwi County are appealing to the government and the humanitarian partners to help them with food and non-food items.

Suspected armed herders last week reportedly displaced over 3,000 residents of Agoro Payam of Magwi County.

Some IDPs who spoke to Radio Emmanuel in a telephone interview explained that the host community in Magwi is the one currently helping them with food items.

They say the items are not enough, shelter and food is their major challenge currently which has left many of them to sleep under trees.

“Help us those of you who are giving helping hands to the helpless, for those suffering because now we are suffering, we don’t have blankets to cover ourselves and there is no food where those in Magwi are the ones helping us now. They do bring us things to cook for our children, but it is not enough for us, they do bring cassava, but even not enough so we are really suffering please hear our cry. In this clash we came without anything in our hands”, the IDPs plead.

“There is no room where we can sleep since we came from there carrying nothing only these residents are the one brining us some cassava so that we eat .we have never test something call food since that is why am saying food is the first thing and also no blanket for us children are sleeping in coldness under the tree like yesterday when it rained we were wash outside”, they added.

“The suffering we got in Nyolo, Agoro and even in Omeo is very serious; the cattle keepers are the ones who caused all these wars. Until now we don’t even know whether some people are still alive in the bush or dead. We came from there without anything if you only carry a child that is enough then. Coming from there we took two days on the way, being bitten by mosquitoes where some children are even having malaria and now in Magwi in the hands of the government. Sometimes when the residents give for us some food, we do even surrender them to the children”, they lament.

Magwi County Relief and Rehabilitation Commission Coordinator, Salfa Ben Okany, disclosed that a plan is underway to organize a meeting with partners to rescue the situation.

He acknowledges the suffering of the IDPs calling on the host community not to interrupt the registration to quicken intervention.

“Right now, am planning to convene a meeting with the partners so that we discuss other things then we do needs assessment then after need assessment then we later come out with the report. The populations that are coming are actual suffering, but my advice to the population in Magwi, let them not interrupt this activities because at the moment they interrupt this activities the process of helping these people will take long”, the coordinator enlightened.

Currently over 7,000 Internally Displaced Persons are said to be in Magwi Payam of Magwi County.
