Suspected criminals burn four houses in Iloli Village, chief reports

A group of suspected criminals burn four houses in Iloli village in Hiyala Payam, Torit County and destroyed all properties in the houses on Tuesday night when the people were sleeping, according to Chief Orasio Apei.

He says the gangs were believed to be aiming at raiding cattle, but they have failed then they resorted to burning of houses, Radio Emmanuel reported.

Chief Apei says the burnt items include sorghum, mattress, money and the other containers that were in the houses.

The chief says these suspected criminals are believed to have come from the neighbouring Oguruny village.

“There is something that has happened to me yesterday at 11PM there are some people who came and burnt four houses including sorghum, money and the water drum, all the mattress are burnt that why we when and trace the footmarks, we have found their footsteps when they have come we have followed near their village after they have burnt this houses they ran and we also followed their footmarks and its entering their village this is their third time to come, the first when we were uprooting the groundnut they came and take the groundnut until we followed and is entering their village and the second after one week they have come this is now their third time they want to raider the calf when the children who are heading the cattle when they have seen they ran and we followed the footstep it entering the Oguruny village”, he explains.

Radio Emmanuel talks to Chief Risio Otida of Oguruny village, saying he is unaware about the incident.

Several times there has been inter-communal conflict between the two communities in Eastern Equatoria State.

The speakers spoke to Radio Emmanuel in a telephone interview on Wednesday from their respective villages.
