Train teachers of special needs learners to simplify their learning, Gideon Cholong Ataba, head teacher of Dr. John Garang Memorial Secondary School in Torit, Eastern Equatoria, urges the state government and education partners.
According to Radio Emmanuel, some schools within Eastern Equatoria have learners who either have problems with their sights and others cannot hear, but no special teachers seen for them.
Cholong says the government and the education partners should employ teachers for special needs or even give appreciation to teachers helping them.
According to him, there are some NGOs which are normally taking the enrolment of such groups of learners from the schools.
“We can ask the government also to employ those ones or to give some appreciation to those who are helping those guys and even our NGOs there are others looking for such kind of people, many of them their here, sometimes they come here and take the enrolment for the disability, so for that one I ask them even if they have some capacities to train other teachers, that one can help us a lot, we need some teachers to be train on special needs”, the head teacher appeals.
Cholong reveals that there is one learner in his school who cannot hear, but does perform well in many subjects.
“For that case, he is lucky enough he is for arts section and in arts section and he is saying that he is going to take fine arts, is good enough I am the one sometimes helping this year those who sat they scored 100% it is me the head teacher helping, giving that subject. He is for next year and am going to prepare also to help him that one is most of it is just practically the one for fine arts that subject as optional subject can also help him and is good in Mathematics, English and those things that is why that case is too special so we thank God”, he explains.
The head teacher of Dr. John Garang Memorial Secondary School made the remark to Radio Emmanuel in an exclusive interview.
