Primary Eight candidates’ enrolment decreased by ten percent in 2021 compared to 2020, according to Lokulang Lokudu, Director of Quality Assurance and Standards in Eastern Equatoria State Ministry of Education.

He explains that in 2020, 3,897 candidates were registered, but in 2021, about 2,959 candidates were enrolled and are ready to sit for Primary Leaving Exams expected to start in the third week of February 2022, Radio Emmanuel reported.

“We are expecting 2,959 learners sitting for this year, by gender females are 1,278, males we have 1,681 sitting in 40 centres and all these schools in total they are 139. In regards to the comparative analysis between this year (2021) and last year (2020) we really regret that there is a difference of 10%. Last year we enrolled 3,897 candidates and this year there are 2,959 candidates. So there is a drop by 10% and that is actually a regret we are saying these learners need to be encouraged. Those who, have gone out kindly accept to come and let us be together in our country, so that we also support education”, Lokudu notes.

The director encourages parents and teachers to work hard for the success of the learners by playing vital roles in ensuring that they can produce good results.

He tasks learners to concentrate on their books and cooperate with friends in learning through group discussions for better results.

He reveals that the exams are scheduled to take place from the 14th – 18th February 2022.

“We need to encourage these learners as parents, as teachers because with all our collective cooperation will always allow these learners to succeed like what we did the best of last year (2020 results). I would also like to tell learners that they should concentrate and have cooperative learning, sharing the ideas or grouping with the other colleagues so that they are able to come out with good results this year. Lastly, I would also like to announce the timetable of this year, the first subject that will start on the 14th February we are going to start with English, the second day that is science, 16th February CRE, 17th SST and final Mathematics”, he explains.

The director made the remarks while addressing journalists at the State Ministry of Education in Torit on Friday.
