Students from different government schools in Juba have protested at the Central Equatoria State Ministry of Education over the resumption of classes.

Teachers in Central Equatoria State are on strike over unpaid allowances, Radio Bakhita Radio reported.

Learners of the government-run schools in Juba have submitted their open letter to the Central Equatoria State Ministry of Education asking for immediate resumption of classes.

Earlier, Minister Cirisio Zachariah Lodu, said he would convene a general assembly meeting of teachers to persuade them to cancel the ongoing strike.

However, the teachers have unanimously rejected the appeal to resume teaching as the government is working to resolve their grievances.

This prompted the students to storm the ministry on Tuesday.

Speaking to the media, students expressed concerns as the national exams are approaching while teachers are still on strike.

“We came to the ministry today to demand for our rights, because since from the resume of the school, we are not being taught, we have been coming to school, no teachers! We are coming to ask the leaders, shall we stay home or be in school.” Students asked.

On his part, Central Equatoria State Minster of Education Cirisio Zachariah Lodu has promised to address the problem in a one-week time.

Meanwhile, Mayor of Juba City Council Michael Lado Allah-Jabu stresses that the government is following the right procedures to address teachers’ allowances issues which is why it is there was a delay.
