The head mistress of Lobone Primary School in Magwi County says the institute is facing a challenge of scholastic materials.

Akwero Sunday Vicky tells Radio Emmanuel that the school lacks desks and class rooms are not enough.

Recommended pupil-desk ratio is three pupils per desk, but it is contrary with Lobone primary where the school is now struggling with five pupils per desk while other learners sit on the floor, she says.

“Some of the learners are sitting down while others are sitting on the desk so they are just sharing but with the issue of covid-19 should be two how we have designed, in Lobone primary we are having a lot of challenges starting from classroom up to the issue of the desks even the classrooms we only have four rooms whereby in each class they are just sharing in one room you get two classes and then the other room like that where P1 with P2 ,P3 and P4, P5 with 6 the 7 with 8”, Sunday ex

The head mistress stresses that teachers are also facing a serious challenge of seats since there are twelve teachers in the school; but only four chairs are available making life hard for them.

“And then for the side of teachers we are having only four chairs whereby we are having twelve teachers and the chairs are not enough for them”, laments.

In a related story, in the Panyikwara Model of Iwire Payam the teaching staff members also have very few chairs with most of them taking learners’ desks to help them, explained Abonga Joseph, head teacher.

He notes that the Panyikwara model has enough desks for only learners except for teachers.

“Desks are enough, the sitting arrangement for the learners is only the desk that means it is enough for all the learners for teachers there is no office chairs at all currently now the school is operating well nothing bad and we are going well with the learners”, Joseph notes.
