Kapoeta East Commissioner of Eastern Equatoria State is calling on non-governmental organisations to give humanitarian assistance in the county.

Abdallah Angelo Lokeno complains that there is hunger in the entire county, Radio Emmanuel reported.

He says inadequate rain last year resulted in the hunger since there was no good harvest.

Lokeno says Lotimor, Jio and Kuron are the most affected areas in the county.

“Before a month I said that there is hunger strike in Kapoeta East the reason is due to no rain, there was no rain the whole of the Kapoeta East is affected with hunger and the most affected villages in the county are Jio, Lotimor, and all parts of Kuron are mostly strike with hunger, let me just say the whole of county is suffering from hunger”, he explains.

The commissioner is afraid that if no intervention is done, there are likely insecurity cases because of poverty.

“I am urging all the NGOs that are having a good heart to help the life of human beings, all these come because our county Kapoeta East was not having rains and right now it is raining. There is nothing that can support us in land preparation or cultivation. If this continues then it will cause some bad things like insecurity because poverty give birth to bad things more especially these times of land preparation”, he appeals.

The speaker was speaking to Radio Emmanuel in a telephone interview on Tuesday.
