South Sudan commemorates international day of persons with disabilities.

The ministry of gender, child and social welfare together with partners, organized to commemorate the international day of persons with disability in Juba

Hon. Aya Benjamin Warrile,the national minister for Gender and social welfare says, the day offers opportunities and advocates for the rights of persons with disability to have equal inclusivity in the nation building.

“This day is celebrated every year on the 3rd of December, it is celebrated globally. It is a day that offers platform for strategic reflection, advocacy and action on policy measures to promote the right of persons with disabilities.”

The chairperson south Sudan union of persons with disabilities Augustion, urges the government and nongovernmental organization to increase support to persons with disabilities.

“In the resolution, we are drawing the attention of the government to kindly consider the following appeal, consider representation of the 15% affirmative action allocated for person with disabilities in all organs of the government, allocate at least one percent of the national revenue to person with disabilities as a social grant.”

The commemoration was brought together the disable persons, the visual, impaired persons, and the wounded joint with partners such as Red Cross, ICRC, and Zain among others

The day was celebrated under the theme “leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post Covid-19 world.”
