St. Bakhita Health Centre is training over thirty-five health workers, on how to handle cases of leprosy in Yei River County of Central Equatoria State.

Administrator of St. Bakhita health centre, Fr. Zachariah Angutowa Sebit, says they handle components of leprosy, sleeping sickness and other diseases.

“We are the component of leprosy, sleeping sickness. From the administration of the dioceses, we negotiated as partners in preparation to live us this hospital”.

He mentions that people who suffer from leprosy are so vulnerable in the society.

“People who suffer from leprosy are so vulnerable. So from that statement, I feel, they are more vulnerable to us in the society.  So through the GLRA, we have established unites. Lasu, Tore, Morobo and Lainya. When the project was ongoing, these are our areas of focus. We have some of the people rehabilitated, they are working with us in the facility, and they give testimony. So I am happy that all of you are invited for this training, there is objective of why you are trained, amidst this sickness, especially you who are from the hospital, our hearts for such vulnerable people, are paramount”, said Angutowa.

County Surveillance officer of Yei River County, Bidali Martin, encourages participants to put more efforts in managing the disease.

“All of us who are invited for this training, let’s put our efforts so that what we have come for, we have to go with something back home because as the doctor has put it, this is really a neglected disease. So we have to put our focus so that we can go back and serve our people”.

The speakers were giving their remarks during the official opening of the training at Christ the King Parish in Yei.
