CORDAID Area Coordinator in Torit, Eastern Equatoria, Doctor Jerry Oliha Martine
is encouraging participants during three-day training on gender equality and social
inclusion to improve on the gender-based violence services in the facility through
mapping.
Speaking during the closure of the training, Dr. Jerry says this will help in boosting
the quality of health services that are rendered at different facilities.
“So, all of you who are going to go back to the facilities you are going to help us with
the services mapping that all of you are should be providing the GBV services in
your facility. And this one is going to boost the quality of health services that we are
going to provide in our facilities”, he notes.
Clinical Officer of Bor-Mutera PHCU in Loudo who participated in the course, Judith
Angundaru Omal, says she is now equipped with the knowledge on how to manage
the issues dealing with GBV in the community.
She says before she was having inadequate knowledge on managing the gender-
based violence matters.
“I have learned a lot of things because I did not know how to handle the GBV case,
how to manage part of medical services, the way of referral, most of the things, at
least I have got some knowledge in it. I use to manage but not in a good channel, I
was having some gaps of the channel, sometime like if I received a survivor, I give
some medication then I just send a referral direct to the main hospital of which for
the three days training I have seen, the channels are supposed to be like that. The
community leaders, the police are all involved in such case”, Angundaru praises.
Another participant, Okuye Emmanuel, Registered Nurse from Lowai PHCC in Kudo
Payam says he looks forward to sensitize the community about the gender-based
violence and its effects and the way forward.
“I have acquired about GBV, I have acquired about Gender equality, we are going to
organize health education session like a kind of awareness we are going to teach
them about GESI and GBV itself so that when there are those kind of cases in the
community have to be reported immediately to the facility especially the rape cases”,
he expresses.
