Police Officer at the Special Protection Unit of Torit Police Station in Eastern Equatoria State, calls on the citizens to respond to any call from the unit, to help in the investigations processes.

Betty Koni says, responding to calls makes it easier to solve any problem before reaching to court.

“I would like to tell the people, once you receive a call from the station of the special protection, do not fear to report, because once you refuse, the case will increase and later you will begin to blame that these people are supporting one side of which, you are the one who increases the case, it is good if you come, it will be more easier to solve and we will be able to normalize and know where you have a mistake” says Koni.

The Policeperson warns that declining from police calls, is a crime and it increases offence.

“Sometimes the case will go up because when a wife comes and complain about the husband for example, and if police calls the husband and he comes, it’s okay, but if he declines, then he has increased the offences because that is against the law, that is what makes us to take another step against him because something small to be solved, he did not come, and that will increase the case and they will say we are supporting one side”, she added.

The officer made the remarks during a workshop on gender sensitivity, organized by UNMISS’ gender unit, in collaboration with ETWAK Women Empowerment Organization.
