At least thirteen people have been confirmed dead after a car accident at Amee
Junction and Obama, along Juba-Nimule highway.
Nimule Police Major, David Kasimiro Okeny confirmed to Radio Emmanuel that a
fuel Tanker travelling to Juba collided with a Noah vehicle heading to Nimule.
He said the Noah had 17 passengers belonging to one family, where 13 died, while
four are receiving treatment.
“There was an accident at around 2:15, this accident happened as a fuel tanker
going to Juba knocked a Noah. Noah was a special hire not public means. It was a
certain family who hired it. This accident between Amee and Oboma, a tanker lost
control and knocked Noah. The Noah was having 17 passengers including the
driver. Meanwhile 13 people died on spot. The driver and three children were terribly
injured. This is what happened on Saturday and the wounded people are attended to
in Nimule Hospital. These are the driver and the three children”.
Major Kasimiro adds that the Noah driver was in critical condition while the one for
tanker has been put in prison.
“The condition of the three children is not too bad, even yesterday they were taken to
taken to Juba, to Bentiu. They will finish their medication there. But the driver was in
critical condition because his breathing had stopped and was put on oxygen. He has
been referred to Juba to Bentiu. The Fuel Tanker driver has been put in prison
though it was not his mistake”.
The police say there was an expectant mother among the family members who died.
“There was one man and his two wives, one of his wives was pregnant and the rest
of the ten people were children. Among the children, one was a female child and the
rest were boys”.
The speaker made the remarks on Monday in a telephone interview.
