At least one person has been confirmed dead after being gunned down by a suspected group of youth from Haforiere in Hiyala, Eastern Equatoria State on Wednesday morning.

Hiyala Boma Chief John Oromo told Radio Emmanuel that the deceased was shot dead at his place in the morning.

Oromo says youth from Haforiere allegedly shot the man on the back and on his head.

“It was in October, the ‘Monyomiji’ followed them to their village, because they even raided cattle from our village, they went there and those people shot one of us but that person was alive and taken to Juba, that was the end. But this one they came and arrived here in the morning and the man was going for long call and from where he eased himself, he put on the clothe while coming back, they shot the man from the back and after falling, they again shot him on the head the man died, so we followed their footstep to their village, but the ‘Monyomiji’ came back because they don’t have problem with them”, the chief explained

Meanwhile the deputy Chief for Hafurere Patrick Aiteng denied that the shooting was by the youth from his village, but rather youth from Hiyala on their arrivals.

“What happened the day before yesterday between Hiyala and Haforiere, there were some groups who came from Hiyala, they wanted to raid cattle from Haforiere, but the people of Haforiere followed them after failing to raid the cattle then they went and shoot someone from Hiyala, but it was not Haforiere who shot people from Hiyala but the people of Hiyala came to Haforiere to raid cattle. They came and tried to raid the cattle from the kraal, but the people in the kraal saw them night and they left the cattle running and these people followed the foot mark and these people should someone in Hiyala, the person died, this happened yesterday in the morning, the shooting in Hiyala”, he said.

Several similar cases of killing in Hiyala have been reported, in October, a 30-year-old man was shot dead while grazing cattle and in September 2021, one person was shot dead in his farm.

The speakers made the remarks to Radio Emmanuel on Thursday in a telephone interview from their respective villages
