World Food Program in partnership with Joint Aid Management gave food to ten thousand people affected by floods in Makuach Payam, Bor of Jonglei State.

JAM program officer, John Mawien Deng, told journalists on Friday during the distributions that their target is to support the most vulnerable people because it is so difficult for them to go to farm during rainy season due to floods.

“We are targeting them because we know that at the period, we call it seasonal scale up period where we proved Makuach beneficiaries most vulnerable because not all the members of Makuach we target, but we target the most vulnerable, why we know during the farming period we that the hunger trick in and then we have to serve them now until it reach the point where the heaviest have started, so we start the lime period where hunger strike from April up to September”.

Mawien say floods across Jonglei State have changed the lives of the people in terms of livelihoods.

“One of the major challenges that we are facing one is the flooding for us to see this community don’t depend on these food every now and then we would love when the situation like floods are not in place, they could be engaging to other project that they can transit to normal but because of floods now they are unable that is the major challenge that we are facing.

He explains that they always do the distribution of food items to two thousand five hundred every day according to beneficiaries in households.

One of the beneficiaries Akuany Ayuen Akuei, thank WFP and JAM for the great support that they are doing in Bor town to save lives of the community because they have nowhere to cultivate due to heavy flooding.

She calls on the humanitarian agencies to increase the current quantity that they are receiving.

The beneficiary added that they are 10 in the house but only 6 vulnerable people are the one receiving and each is getting nearly 7 kilogram of maize flour and two litters of cooking oil, among others.

Nyanachiek Dhol another beneficiary explains that the food gets finish quickly because they are relying on it, and they have no any other options of cultivation which can push them for the next month.

The food received includes maize, cooking oil and salt and the distribution takes place after a month since the project started in 2020.

Jonglei State has been one of the states which has experienced several flooding clashes since last and thousands of people are now living in a very difficult life in Bor town.

According to humanitarians partners, they are targeting 325,000 people in the affected areas across the country with emergency services as of September and the number will be updated regularly as the response includes additional people affected.
