The internal displaced persons or IDPs in UNMISS camp are in great worry as World Food Program or WFP food distribution project is ending this month.
IDPs Camp Deputy Chairperson Garkuath Galuak Wol told journalists on Saturday, that they don’t know what will happen to them because WFP informed them that it has no program of food distribution from October to December.
He stressed that WFP use to give them food items every month, but they have ended the program and they don’t know where they are going to get food because they have no place to cultivate.
“World food use to give us every months, now this time they said they are not going to give us food, the last food we received in September, from October, November and December we are not going to receive food and we don’t know where we are going to get food if they are don’t to give us food because we are in Camp where you can’t go something, before we had some areas outside where we use to cultivate in but now it’s full of flood and the one which is a bit find the outsiders has overcome it we now don’t have anything”.
Galuak says since it was changed from protection of civilians’ side or (POC) to IDPs, they have been facing a lot of difficulties. Adding before UNMISS use to pull out the water when the flooding is too much but now it’s not there anymore.
He explains that UNICHR and ACTED are the agencies which support IDPs’ camp through the situation they are undergoing.
The deputy chairperson appealed to the government to intervene before the situation worsens in the IDPs camp.
“We are giving much thanks to the management of ACTED because they are doing great job through this situation of flood when the camp is full of flood they can pull it out with generators, if it was not because of them we don’t know how our situation could be, but we thank God they are always with us 24 hours and we have only two (2) organizations which is ACTED as management are UNICHR are the only people who have been with us through the difficulties we facing and we are calling on any other partners to come and join hands with two and help us”
Jonglei State Flood Management Committee chairperson, Diing Akol Ding, said the government is negotiating with WFP on how they can support IDPs in camp because they have no single place to cultivate.
“We are still negotiating with world food program on that, there chair of the RRC in Jonglei state is in Juba negotiating that these people are vulnerable, they have no any other source of livelihood, they only livelihood they have is relaying on world food program. So we are negotiating with the world food program to reconsider their decision on that, especially these people who are vulnerable, who are displaced and they don’t have anything else so this is what we are doing now as the government of Jonglei state”.
Diing said Jonglei State Relief and Rehabilitation Commission chairperson is negotiating because those are vulnerable people who have nothing to do during this critical time of flood.
