Journalists should focus on peace stories than war, says Undersecretary

Put more efforts in peace reporting than reporting on the number of people been killed, Pia Philip Michael, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Peace Building urged Journalists.

He advises journalists to know their objectives of becoming media practitioners.

“What is the objective of the media, of you as a South Sudan who is a journalist in this country, why do you share that information, what is the end objective of your being a journalist, what do you want for your country”, he asks.

Philip stated that nation and peace building is collective responsibility of every South Sudanese.

He adds it is not South Sudan that needs peace, not the world, but it is the people who need peace.

“Actually as we know it, it is not South Sudan that needs peace, it is not the world that needs peace, but it is the people who need peace. But how do we then cultivate in the hearts of each and every one across the Republic South Sudan, is the task that you the Journalists have”., the undersecretary notes

Media Authority director-general Sapana Abui urges journalists to do more because the community listen to radio any time and peace is number one thing that South Sudanese need at the moment.

He pleads that it is time for media house to play their role in disseminating peace through talk shows and other ways of broadcasting peace building.

The director-general discloses that media authority gave a special consideration to community radios in registration because they are wider compared to public radio stations.

The officials made their remarks during peace building conference organized by (COMNETSS in partnership with NPA, UNDP and Korea International Cooperation Agency on Monday in Juba.
